Student Life

Mr. Luis Javier Isasi from Spain

My name is Luis Isasi, a Spanish exchange student at Nagasaki University. I chose Nagasaki because it seemed a great opportunity for me to live in Japan, since it is a country that is very different to Spain.

Since I don’t know Japanese, at first when I arrived I thought life would be very difficult but I rapidly learnt my way around the city and started to enjoy.

I have discovered many amazing places. Not only the popular touristic places like Inasayama “稲佐山”, Glover Garden “グラバー園” or Suwa Shrine “諏訪神社”, but also places you only get to known when you live in a city for a longer period. I have enjoyed the views in Nabekanmuriyama Park “鍋冠山公園”. I have gotten lost in izakaya restaurants in Shianbashi “思案橋”, I have played soccer with people from all over the world I got to know because of NUFSA: Nagasaki University Foreign Students Association and I have relaxed with a book and a drink on the grass of Nagasaki Seaside Park “長崎水辺の森”. I also want to thank you the judo club from Sakamoto campus for giving me the opportunity to try a new sport.

But of course, all these things I haven’t done them alone. You can feel the international past of Nagasaki everywhere around the city. The best experience has been to be able to get along with all the Japanese people that have shown me their life here in Nagasaki, and also all the other foreign students and travelers that I have run into during my stay here. It is by far the best asset I will take back to home, the people.
