Joint Seminar with
UK-Japan High Technology Industry Forum (UKJHTIF)
The second in the 1998 seminar of the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, organized in association with the Japan Society, will take place on Wednesday, 11th February, 6pm-8pm, at Daiwa Foundation Japan House. The seminar will be jointly organized with the UK-Japan High Technology Industry Forum as part of their Asia Pacific Seminars. The title is
“How Japanese Companies have Globalized.” The speaker at the seminar will be Professor John Stopford, Professor of International Business, London Business School and Professor Tetsuya Fujino, Professor of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics and the Graduate School of Economics, National University of Nagasaki and currently Ministry of Education Overseas Research Fellow at the London School of Economics. The seminar will be chaired by Dr. Yasuhiro Nishida, Chief Corporate Representative, Research and Development, of Sumitomo Electric Europe Ltd.After the presentation from the speakers discussion will be opened up to the audience and, as with previous series, it is intended that an edited version of both the presentation and the discussion will be published at the end of the series.
Tetsuya Fujino worked with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (IHI), in corporate planning and finance, until 1994 when he became Associate Professor and, in April 1996, Professor of Business Administration at the National University of Nagasaki. His Research Fellowship at the LSE began in September 1997. Professor Fujino was awarded, in 1989, The Management Science Study Award by the Japan Management Association for his research, American and European Multinational and Overseas Subsidiaries, and in 1987 the fourth Takahashi Kamekichi Prize by Toyo Keizai for his paper, Human Resources and Japanese Management in the Process of Globalization. His publications include Globalization and Consolidated Management (Bunshindo, 1998), Management of Overseas Subsidiaries in Southeast Asia (Nagasaki University, 1997) and Comparative Management – Japanese Management in Foreign Countries and Multinational Companies (Chikurashobo, 1995).
